Stylo

Was at Stylo’s Opening Gala last night. As usual, a last minute invitation from our lecturer and I was feeling ready to get all dolled up. But at the last minute, I kinda felt like I didn’t wanna go. (aiya, blame old age) But I went anyway.

It was definitely a different feeling as the last time I was at a Stylo event, it was to “volunteer” to become kuli (slave?). Everyone was glamorous, saw some datuk-datuks and datins-datins. Location wise, I felt it was a little obscure. Easy to get to, sure (via Googlemap) but it isn’t a place I would really go to.

On a good note, Stylo’s planning to open up an academy some time this year. Yay!

The night had Datuk Nancy Yeoh giving her speech and fashion shows by Khoon Hooi, Jendela KL and Bill Keith. It was also Kavita Sidhu’s debut as a fashion designer. I liked the colors presented in her garments, but I kinda thought the designs were, ordinary. Sure, they were very ready to wear, but it didn’t really catch my attention. I guess I like things that makes you wonder how it was made.

I found Khoon Hooi’s design very pretty and I liked the prints on Jendela KL’s designs. Bill Keith’s designs were based on the peranakan culture but what was interesting was the masks that lit up (via LED). He also had a performer sing throughout his show, and all I can say was it was horrible. She was attempting to sing Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance and I think it went horribly wrong. She messed up the lyrics and was lip-syncing/out of breath most times too. :S

And this morning it was the competition for the young designers. I was there with the rest of the fashion students to support our senior who was one of the finalist. 7 finalists (2 from Raffles, Lim Kok Wing, SML, MIA, TAR and PJCAD) were picked out of god knows how many entries they had, and I liked some of the other students’ work. Some were good, some were just… :S

Results will only be revealed on the last day of Stylo and all the young designers will be able to parade their designs in front of a  bigger audience. My battery ran out of memory when I was busy taking videos of some of the garments. :S So sad.

Cut it out!

Today was spent sleeping in till 10am (even though I slept at around 10-ish last night as well), having KFC for lunch whilst watching New Moon and heading out for the launch of CutOut Magazine @ Palate Palette.

New Moon kinda sucked (no surprise). I think the only thing that was interesting was Jacob (Taylor Lautner). I mean, I loved the books… but when brought onto silver screen, it kinda sucked ass. :S I would probably watch the last two just because I’ve started watching the first two anyway. Lunch was blah. I think the buns to my Zinger burger was left out for too long. It was no longer nice and fluffy, but instead kinda hard.

As for the event, it was alright. Saw a few familiar faces, met new people and also gave out a few name cards. I’m trying to get them all out! I still have another box and I’ve not gone through this one yet. Cut Out magazine is basically a magazine for the local graphic design scene. But it does touch onto others as well. The S.O bought their first issue and was impressed. I, on the other hand, liked the cover of their upcoming issue. 😛 Will probably sneak a read when he gets the next issue.

Edward Scissorhands

Good day my pretties.

I know I haven’t exactly been a good blogger, but what can I do when I was up till my eyeballs in work. =.=”

Anyway, it’s FINALLY OVER! 3 whole months (okay la, only 1 month) of preparation and going insane (from sewing) finally boiled down to one night – and sadly, it was a night I couldn’t remember. Maybe it was because of all the exhaustion that I couldn’t really enjoy myself. I only had 3 hours of sleep prior to the fashion show. Some barely slept at all. o.O

May I present to you, my illustrations for the fashion show. My group was required to create 2 garments (avant garde & evening wear) where as the senior group did ready to wear.

Evening wear

Avant Garde

We also had to make our own heels to go with our garments. I love the shoe, but too bad it isn’t in my size. 🙁 The models average shoe sizes are 8 or 9. I’m only a 5. These are 5 inch heels with hidden platform.

5" heels

My classmate Nazwa, who is from Maldives, together with our two juniors Karyna & Vicky. Can’t remember if this was before or after judging – at the Green room.

For our show, we had the juniors help us backstage. Below is Aam and Nadiah. Aam was helping Nadiah as a dresser for the night.

We were bored. So we snapped pictures. This is Dayana. Sue Jean was sitting beside Dayana and she’s not in the picture cos she wasn’t feeling well. 🙁

Something funny happened that night. Nelly ( a classmate) and I had some sort of “connection” that somehow or rather, we ended up in the same shade of blue dress, a white belt and black gladiator heels. Thank goodness I didn’t have red hair and wasn’t wearing blue eyeshadow. LoL. Else, someone might have mistaken us as promoters or something. =.=”

My evening dress modeled by Dawn, together with my two assistants, Felicia and Kelvin. Incidentally, Kelvin is a year younger than I am, plus we both share the same surname too!

My avant garde dress modeled by Weena. She’s nice. 🙂

So yea. This is over and done with. Bring on the normal classes and homework. =.=! We’re already wayyyyyyy behind in class because of this project. I guess the next fashion show for me would be either my graduation work or maybe the Singapore Fashion Week. 😀

Valentine’s Day

Sorry for abandoning my blog. 🙁 I’ve been absolutely swamped with doing my garments (yes, until now!) and I don’t think it will stop until after the fashion show. 🙁 So please bear with me.

Anyway, the S.O won tickets to watch Valentine’s Day courtesy of Nuffnang. I was just too lazy to actually write the post to join the contest. Haha. I would consider this movie to have a star studded cast. I mean Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher are pretty big household names. Plus, the movie’s pretty cute although I have beef with the censorship board. >.<

I don’t know what the hell they were censoring, but it distracted me a whole lot. 🙁 It’s a movie I would definitely watch again, though not at the cinemas because of all the cuts. It completely disrupted the flow of the story (for me at least). All in all, good movie. It will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. 😛

Weekend Madness

Last weekend was an incredibly busy one.

Headed down to Malacca for a day trip on Saturday. Didn’t do much but visited Mahkota Parade and the Pahlawan square place. It was like a mini Sg. Wang there. :S The S.O wasn’t too happy that they “destroyed” a historical landmark by elevating it and building a shopping/food place under it. I don’t quite remember that particular spot cos the last time I went to Malacca was almost 13 years back. o.O

Walked around Jonker street in the afternoon sun. Nothing much to buy. Wanted to have chicken rice balls, but couldn’t cos we were full from lunch and the shop was closed by the time we were prepared to “tapau” and leave. 🙁 But we did have yummeh ice kacang and cendol. Perhaps they should mix the mango bits with the cendol rather than having it on the ice kacang? XD

Sunday was spent attending Lilian Too’s Feng Shui Extravaganza at KLCC (the convention center). Incidentally, the Star Education Fair was also happening. Tons of people during lunch but we managed to snag a spot at Kenny Rogers before it got packed. Got hit by broken glass, luckily I was wearing stockings, so no injuries.

Today is the first day of the new semester. *monotonous* weeeeeee~

Got a nice pressie from Jakarta. 😀 Love the new necklace. Am not prepared for the new semester. I feel like I’m gasping for air. Maybe as time progresses, I’ll get into the groove of things again. Busy Busy! We finally got our own room albeit small. Got chased out of the bigger fashion room to make way for the new intake.

I love getting stuff in the mail #2

Didn’t buy anything this time, but instead, a friend sent me a letter all the way from Alaska!

I’ve known Dara over the internet for several years now. We’re members of the Boa-Nation forum which is sorta like a fan club for BoA (a Korean singer). So anyway, her boyfriend moved up to Alaska to be with her just last year. (cue the “awww….”) I just love both of them cos they’re such sweethearts and they’re so thoughtful. 😀

Would definitely love to meet them in person if given the chance. Anyone wants to sponsor me a trip to Alaska? XD So anyway, I leave you with pictures of the card they got me. Contents not shown cos it’s private. 😉

Youreka!

Just got home from the Youreka! Finale Party by Yahoo.

Omg! I need to rant for a while. Initially, the party was suppose to be at CapSquare and we were not informed that the venue has been changed to KL Live. We (the S.O and I) only figured it out when we arrived at CapSquare, looking for signs indicating there’s a Yahoo event going on.

But noooooooo, no signs, nada.

So, we asked the Information counter. The dude handed us a flyer and mentioned that the event had been moved. I asked him where on earth KL Live was and he mentioned that it was near the Bukit Bintang MRT station. Oh boy, he was wrong. Luckily I called a friend to “google” the place for me. The nearest MRT was not Bukit Bintang, but Raja Chulan. Annnnddd… it was on Jalan Sultan Ismail.

Was feeling a bit tulan cos before that, we were stuck in a jam since 6pm and only arrived at CapSquare at 8pm. Paid RM 2 for parking even though we were only there for 16 minutes trying to locate the event. Then spent another 15 minutes circling the area, missing the 1st parking entrance and needing to make another round. Discovered that the parking fee of the place was an insane RM 9 (from 6pm – 6am). Yahoo could have saved us from this agonizing run-about if they’d at least sent an update on the change in venue. 🙁

Buuuutttt…. the S.O and I got some freebies and had no luck with the purple tag. Really, does it even exist? Has anyone actually picked out a purple tag? So disappointed.

We stayed for Bunkface’s performance since they were the opening act. I think they’ve found themselves a new fan. 😀 Saw Justin Yap (designer) at the event as well. Didn’t say hi cos I was shy. -.-” Plus I don’t think he remembers me. Left after that cos we were hungry. Had TGIF for dinner and the service was a little bit slow. 🙁 I tried their sizzling chicken and cheese and thought it was an interesting meal. S.O had the fish & chips.

No pictures from me cos I wasn’t in the mood to whip out the camera. The S.O took some pictures of the event though. Click here for pictures.

Fashion Mayhem

Been busy so I don’t really have time for a proper update. 🙁

I can’t believe that the 3rd of December is NEXT WEEK! Omfg! I’m not too worried about the garments cos that’s already done. What I’m worried about is getting the music done on time. =.=” Gotta hand it in on Monday. Rehearsals are on Tuesday in the fashion room and the dry run is on Wednesday. Meh, I haven’t even found a dress/top/psychedelic outfit for the day.

Got tons of work that still needs to be done, but as usual, I’m procrastinating.

Will be attending the Yahoo party tomoro – IF I get the purple tag. I reaaaaaaalllly WANT the blackberry, and with that tag, I will be in the running to get it. 🙁 So if I don’t get the purple tag, Imma just gonna go home and sulk about it. 😛 *crosses fingers* I wanna win, I wanna win, I wanna win!

Okay, I’m gonna head off to bed now. Got an early class tomoro and then I have to help my lecturer with his eye makeup for an annual dinner. 😀

MOS & Williams

I’ve been doing fashion illustration with ink wash. It’s not easy. 🙁 Somehow, my ink wash seems to look like ink splatters. 🙁

I feel dejected.

I’ve got another 100 more to go. *sigh*

Anyway, last night I attended the Ministry of Sound – Euphoria’s 1st Anniversary with the S.O. They were having free flow of alcohol from 9pm – 11pm. I haven’t drank in a very long time. -.-” All I had that night was a Turborg. It wasn’t very happening. DJ Dave Seaman was suppose to spin that night, but even as we were about to leave, the place was still pretty bleh.

No one was dancing on the dance floor, and there was this weird character on stilts going around doing random dances and gyrating on the stairs. Xp So yea, our more “happening” party was at Williams. Had my usual cheese naan, but I think I’ll order the Mozzarella Cheese Ham Naan.

It was yummeh.
